Pass The Handle week starts Monday, July 15 and runs through Sunday, July 21, 2024.

This week, Pass The Handle encourages watersports enthusiasts everywhere to introduce new people of all ages to the excitement of water sports. From wakeboarding, water skiing, and wakesurfing;  to kneeboarding and tubing; to barefooting, wakeskating, and other fun on the water, this is the week to grow participation in the water sports so many  know and love.

Follow Pass The Handle on Facebook and Instagram for real-time updates throughout the week of events happening across the country. If you are participating, be sure to tag @PassTheHandle and utilize the #PassTheHandle hashtag for a chance to be featured on our channels! We also created a social media guide with helpful tips, sample captions, and example posts to support your #PassTheHandle efforts during the week.

For the past few years Robby Maschhaupt has spent his summers on the water teaching others the joys of wakeboarding and wakesurfing. As an avid fan of riding, Robby has wanted to give back, and he’s done more than his fair share by passing the handle to thousands of others, all free of charge. His efforts, dedication, and passion are a big reason he won the inaugural #PASStheHANDLE award at the 2017 Wake Awards. For 2019 he’s going bigger and better by teaming up with Centurion Boats, Roswell Marine, and Carolina Water Sports.

Next year you’ll find Robby in a custom wrapped Ri257 towing people all over the Carolinas, all free of charge. As of now there are over 70 PTH events scheduled out of Holiday Marina, Trump National and the Peninsula Yacht Club on Lake Norman. There will be nine other PTH events on these lakes:

A movement that started four years ago as a way to inspire others to share their passion for towed watersports with new participants, #PassTheHandle has quickly grown into the largest movement in our industry.

Last winter, #PassTheHandle carved out a specific day dedicated to towed water sports enthusiasts south of the hemisphere. As the first Southern Hemisphere day, #PassTheHandle truly became a worldwide movement, encouraging participation throughout the community of boaters in Australia, South America and beyond.

This Sunday, December 10, 2017, please join us for the second annual #PassTheHandle Southern Hemisphere Day by teaching a first-timer to ride, ski or tube, and be sure to share your photos and videos through social media using the hashtag #PassTheHandle. It’s the best and easiest way to spread your love of watersports to the world.

With a worldwide mission to share the towed water sports experience with new participants, the fourth annual #PassTheHandle initiative is scheduled for July 23, 2017.

Four years ago, longtime towed water sports industry leader and #PassTheHandle co-founder, Zane Schwenk, conceptualized the idea with Shaun Murray to share their passion with first-timers on a larger scale. Since then, the initiative has grown significantly through word of mouth, social media and participation.

Continuing to spread awareness year after year, Schwenk is an active purveyor of the project. “The movement to spread the love of towed water sports has continued to grow and bring more happy faces to the water.” Initially, Schwenk was the driving force behind #PassTheHandle, but since the founding year, so many others have taken this mission on as their own. “Our industry, including dealers and the passionate people that love to share the sport have been amazing in their efforts to support #PassTheHandle. It’s like nothing I have ever seen before,” Schwenk said.

For the first time since its inception, #PassTheHandle carved out a specific day dedicated to towed water sports enthusiasts south of the hemisphere on December 11, 2016. Originally designed to be a worldwide movement, this first Southern Hemisphere day was a huge move in the right direction. With an extensive community of boaters in the Australasia and South American regions, it was a fantastic way to create awareness and participation throughout these locales.

WSIA Executive Director, Kevin Michael, has been managing the project over the last two years, and enjoys how #PassTheHandle fits into the WSIA wheelhouse. “When Zane and Shaun presented this idea to our board of directors, it was a no-brainer for us to support it. With our mission to promote and protect towed water sports, it is essential for us to get new participants on the water. As a lifelong participant myself, I look forward to sharing the love each year and the efforts are very rewarding. This past weekend, May 13, 2017 the Queen City Surf Fest was the largest gathering of wakesurf enthusiasts in the Carolinas, offering the chance to surf behind an impressive array of the industry’s top boat brands, including Supra, Moomba, Axis, Malibu, and Mastercraft.

With over 200 surf spots booked, we had many new surfers as well as veterans who helped pass the handle and share the stoke of water sports!

The day started off cloudy and rainy but that didn’t stop the crowds from gathering on the water! The weather cleared up and ended up being a beautiful day on the water with big waves and lots of fun. Here is a quick recap video from the event.

Pass the Handle came a week early this year at Centurion and Supreme Boats. These Correct Craft Companies combined Pass the Handle day with a Weekend of Giving on July 16, 2016. In addition to a canned food drive and Lake Yosemite clean-up, Centurion and Supreme chose to give the fun of towed water sports to some extremely deserving individuals. Employees Manual Ayala and Jose Gonzalez Mora as well as their children were surprised with first-time rides in and behind the boats these two dads have been building for many years.

“The culture at Centurion and Supreme is defined by service; service to God, the community and our employees,” said Paul Singer, President of Centurion and Supreme Boats. “The Weekend of Giving is a perfect example of the influence of Correct Craft on our brands and our new direction as a company.”

Originally Centurion and Supreme Boats had planned to Pass the Handle to a local less fortunate family on the Weekend of Giving. While recruiting for Lake Yosemite trash clean-up help, they realized there were some deserving families much closer to home. At the company picnic Ayala mentioned that he had never been in a Centurion or a Supreme boat on the water. After building these boats for more than 22 years, the leadership team felt it was time they Pass the Handle internally to employees like Manual.

When asked how this year’s Pass the Handle came about, Amy Mauzy, Vice President of Marketing and Sales, responded this way. “We brought a 2017 Centurion and Supreme boat to the picnic for the employees’ families to check out. It was really cool to see dads and moms pointing out the areas of the boats they build to their kids. Their pride was inspiring.” Mauzy continued, “After seeing this and hearing Manual’s story, we gathered our leadership team and unanimously decided to surprise two employees by taking them and their families out in the boat. We chose Manual and Jose to be the first, but they won’t be the last.”

Ayala has been building Centurion and Supreme Boats since 1994. He works in the Upholstery Department hand covering Centurion and Supreme interior pieces. He is a single dad with 4 boys and 1 grandson. He enjoys raising his boys, playing soccer, going fishing and taking his kids to soccer. Manual calls himself a “soccer dad”. He has seen nothing but positive change at Centurion and Supreme Boats since becoming a Correct Craft Company.

Ayala was asked what he thought about the day. “I am loving this!” Ayala said happily. He explained, “It feels good to ride in a boat that I made.”

When asked why Correct Craft Companies are so giving, Shane Stillman, Vice President of Production & Engineering for Centurion and Supreme Boats, said this. “The positives effects from the weekend of giving and pass the handle with Jose and Manual can be seen on the production line and in the boats.” Stillman explained, “Giving these guys the opportunity to give back to their community as well as enjoy the boats they are building, strengthens our team and makes life better for all concerned.”

Jose Gonzalez Mora has been with Centurion Supreme boats since 2003. He was born and raised in Merced, CA. Jose is married with 7 Children. He is very devoted to his church, Sacred Heart. He likes playing soccer and raising his children. He is enrolled in Knights of Columbus and has been an active member for 3 years. He is proud to be a part of this growing company.

“There are no words to describe how grateful and blessed I feel to be able to go out on the lake with five of my seven children.” Gonzalez Mora continued, “I thought I was bringing my kids to clean-up the lake, instead I am experiencing something new and fun with my family.”
