2023 Heyday H20 https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/boats/2023-heyday-h20-wsbbg/ Fri, 14 Apr 2023 13:54:27 +0000 https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/?p=57842 The H20 makes great wakes and waves more accessible.

Heyday’s H20, with its pricing and neat features such as the patented Power Platform, makes owning a wakeboat more accessible. Hit a switch and this swim step rises vertically, shortening the boat to less than 18 feet and making garage storage easy, especially when combined with its folding trailer tongue. In the water, raise the Power Platform to keep waterfowl from climbing aboard and doing what they do.

More Heyday ingenuity is shown in the H20’s transom seats, which provide guests a unique view of the watersports action behind the boat. Bonus: Extra storage underneath these seats is easy to access from the back of the boat.

Heyday H20 bow seating
We found the playpen-style bow very wide, offering loads of space for children and adults alike. Garrett Cortese

With a passenger rating of 12, the H20 offers room for a lot of friends and family to get in on the action together. We found the playpen-style bow very wide, offering loads of space for children and adults alike. Underseat storage throughout this Heyday H20 offers plenty of room for the requisite gear, while a sliding rear bench seat offers another option for guests aboard to watch the riding.

At the helm, the H20 keeps things simple for the captain in a good way. A Simrad touchscreen display on the right complements a stereo head unit on the left. Owners can control all of the boat’s functions and systems from this touchscreen, which utilizes a custom Heyday software package, aka GUI (“gooey”), or graphical user interface. Plus, since Brunswick manufactures both Simrad and MerCruiser, the captain can also use the display to check fuel and engine data.

When it comes time to do some riding, the H20 is no slouch. With 2,400 pounds of ballast located in four zones, plus three riders on board, the H20 kicked up impressive wakesurf waves and wakeboard wakes. The shape of both can be quickly customized by adjusting the center-mounted transom tab.

While manufacturers continue to push what’s possible by going bigger and bigger with new offerings, it’s refreshing to see Heyday buck that trend with the H20. It has big advantages with its smaller size, especially for buyers looking to get into the market without breaking the bank.

2023 Heyday WT-2DC https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/boats/2023-heyday-wt-2dc-wsbbg/ Fri, 14 Apr 2023 13:53:56 +0000 https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/?p=57841 The WT-2DC can handle a range of wake sports for a nice price.

The affordably priced WT-2DC and its big sister, the equally economical WT Surf, look unlike anything else on the market. The unique bow delivers an aggressive stance, helps create spacious seating, and provides its owners with a distinctive style all its own.

The WT-2DC can create wakes and waves for beginner to advanced riders. Garrett Cortese

While inspecting the WT-2DC, we discovered two unique seats on each side of the V-drive inboard engine. Most watersports boats use this space as a sun pad with storage below. Heyday flipped the script. One can sit facing either direction in these seats, but it’s especially fun to face aft and watch the watersports action occurring in the wake. For 2023, Heyday upgraded the interior vinyl, and attractive nonskid flooring throughout makes the WT-2DC easy to walk around and clean. Both enhance the style and vibe of the boat’s interior.

At the helm, you’ll find a sliding, swiveling seat with a built-in flip bolster. Classic analog gauges and toggle switches for accessories make the WT-2DC simple to use. Front and center, there’s a Simrad touchscreen offering fuel level and flow, speed control, and more. A unique element to Heyday’s cruise-control software is Smart Tow. Pick your launch option from level 1 to 5, and Smart Tow controls take-off speed accordingly. This helps with teaching those new to watersports. New ballast-tank meters highlight ballast levels, making them easier to adjust for customizing wakes and waves.

With its 1,800 pounds of ballast, the WT-2DC can create wakes and waves for beginner to advanced riders. Add the optional 650-pound plug-and-play ballast bag to upsize the ride even more. With in-floor and underseat storage throughout, plus the swiveling board racks on the tower, room for gear abounds. Another advantage for beginners: Surf tow points on each side of the tower allow the wakesurf towrope to be mounted to the side a surfer is riding, making it easier to get into the wave without dealing with the boat’s prop wash.

Heyday squarely aims the WT-2DC at buyers looking to get into a watersports boat at a more accessible price than most, whether for wakeboarding, wakesurfing or just hanging out.

High Points

  • Transom walk-through provides easy water access.
  • Tower lowers easily, making the WT-2DC ready to store in a standard garage.

The lines of Heyday’s H22 are bold and attractive, yet not overly aggressive. The aesthetic provided by the flat front of the bow echoes that of the LED light bar that’s both functional and futuristic. The H22’s high gunwales allow for deeper, more secure cockpit seating. Follow the sheerline aft, and the H22’s signature rear-facing transom seats are revealed. These seats are unlike any other in the water-sports boat market, constructed in a way that enables sitting in them while the boat is underway so that occupants can safely and comfortably enjoy the action in the wake.

Equipped with MerCruiser’s 370 hp T6200 inboard engine, the H22 planes quickly and easily, even when loaded with passengers and the available 2,950 pounds of ballast on board. At the helm, the Simrad touchscreen multifunction display features Heyday’s custom software, meaning the H22’s systems and accessories are controlled intuitively with a few finger taps.

Heyday H22 bow seating

In terms of comfort, the H22 offers a surprising amount of space to spread out despite its 22-foot length. Rated for 14, quality upholstery materials and attractive stitching add a customized look, while the sliding rear bench adds versatility and function. Access to the transom and its two unique seats is easy thanks to the nonskid flooring and cascading steps to the swim platform.

Swiveling racks on the tower make for convenient board stowage, and generously sized underseat compartments provide plenty of space for your gear and essentials. A large Bimini top deploys easily, providing cooling shade. The tower itself can be lowered by a single person, which aids in several scenarios, including making garage storage easier for the H22.

The Heyday custom software comes with presets for “Surf Left” and “Surf Right,” making it simple for new riders and captains to create and ride optimized waves. The 2,950 pounds of ballast help create fun, clean wakesurf waves with a good-size sweet spot; add the weight of family and friends as crew to the boat and the waves and riding only get better. Customize the wake and wave shape by adjusting the center-mounted tab at the transom.

If you’re looking to get into watersports with a good-performing, high-quality boat for an attractive price, try out a Heyday H22.

Heyday’s WTSurf is its largest model, with room for 17 watersports-loving family and friends. Though its name implies a specialization in wakesurfing, our time aboard proved this boat is capable of much more.

Surfing behind the Heyday WTSurf
Riders are treated to sizable wakesurf waves with a clean face and a pocket that provides ample push. Garrett Cortese

Deep gunwales in the squared-off bow provide comfortable, ample space for multiple people to sit and face either fore or aft. A removable cushion transitions the space into a playpen-style lounge for added comfort. In the cockpit, spacious wraparound seating proves comfortable, and a convertible backrest at the OB seat allows boaters to face aft to watch the on-water fun. All-new vinyl upholstery makes all the seating more durable and comfortable. Nonskid decking throughout the interior and around the gunwales ensure secure footing.

The most unique feature of the WTSurf is undoubtedly the lounge seats on each side of the engine compartment. Designed to be ridden in while facing either forward or aft, these work well for lounging but offer an incredible vantage point for watching the wakesurf action. Speaking of the action, the WTSurf is built to deliver fun for a variety of skill levels, whether wakesurfing or wakeboarding. Fill up the 2,800 pounds of onboard subfloor ballast and riders are treated to sizable wakesurf waves with a clean face and a pocket that provides ample push.

Thanks to storage under the seats, in the in-sole locker, and on racks on the tower, there is plenty of room for all of that watersports gear. The tower also houses a large Bimini top that helps provide needed shade on sunny days.

The helm of the WTSurf is a mix of modern tech and classic analog style. Gauges displaying miles per hour and rpm flank the center-mounted touchscreen that gives the captain access to functions like cruise control, navigation and engine data. Toggle switches to the left of the steering wheel control onboard systems like the blower, lights and bilge.

From the first-time rider to the seasoned watersports captain, Heyday’s WTSurf delivers a solid mix of performance and comfort in a unique package that’s more accessibly priced than similar-size watersports boats.

2023 Montara Surf Boss 2.0 https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/sponsored-post/2023-montara-surf-boss-20/ Wed, 12 Apr 2023 20:13:41 +0000 https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/?p=57813 The Surf Boss 2.0 offers a luxurious ride and thrilling wakes and waves.

It’s rare for a new boat model from a young company to impress the editorial staff at Boating. We test some 100 boats per year. That said, Montara’s Surf Boss 2.0 wowed us as truly innovative.

First off, make no mistake that this is an all-out wakesports boat. Its bottom—crafted in aluminum—and onboard ballast and shaping systems create wakes and waves that will please the most advanced riders. In fact, we hired a pro rider to help us test this boat, and in this video, you will see for yourself the level of thrill that Montara’s Surf Boss 2.0 can deliver. A wake tower is standard, as is a full-featured fiberglass helm, raised 5 inches and complete with a 12-inch touchscreen. Proprietary software ensures that beginners and experts can both create great wakes and waves.

In addition, this boat offers a deck layout that rivals the space and comfort of a luxury pontoon. Offering seating for 16 (its 23-foot  sister model seats 14), the 25-foot model we tested sported luxuriously upholstered seating, complete with draining stowage within. Two layouts are available, both with the ability to walk right through the boat from transom to bow. A unique feature is the “basement,” a huge, walk-in stowage area in the bow deck. See it in the video.

The Montara Surf Boss is truly two boats in one, and absolutely in a class of its own.

Tapping in at 26 feet, 5 inches in length overall and rated to carry a total of 18 watersports fans, the Malibu Wakesetter 26 LSV offers room aplenty. Its bow maintains a traditional shape, with an attractive sheerline and design contours in the hullsides that allow for a variety of custom gelcoat patterns and colors that scream fresh and new.

The 26 LSV’s wraparound seating is truly spacious and includes a unique storage locker that doubles as an adjustable backrest. The all-new, trademarked, Max-Pivot Seat is another highlight. Many wakeboats include rear benches that face the transom, but few also turn into a table, and even fewer turn into a bed. That’s next-level lounging—and next-level thinking from the design team at Malibu.

At the helm, the Wakesetter 26 LSV boasts the intuitive, trademarked Malibu Command Center. The main center-mounted touchscreen displays the engine’s vital readings and gives access to system controls such as the ballast tanks, trademarked Surf Gate, Power Wedge III and cruise control. A secondary touchscreen to the left of the wheel controls accessories like the stereo and much more. To the right is Malibu’s signature Sport Dial, which provides control of stereo volume and cruise-control speeds without removing your eyes from the water. A wireless phone charger adds convenience; you can leave those pesky cords at home.

Even with only two testers in the boat, the surf wave is incredible. Attribute this to Malibu’s industry-leading surf system with 4,600 pounds of hard-tank ballast and Power Wedge III adding an additional 1,500 pounds. Adjusting the Power Wedge III quickly changes the shape and style of the wave, from steep and rampy to long and mellow. Riders of any ability will be comfortable behind the 26 LSV. Getting on plane isn’t an issue either, thanks to the 606 ponies churning inside the Malibu Monsoon LT4 engine and the 606 foot-pounds of torque it puts out. Need help docking? Opt for the trademarked Stern Turn thruster.

Seeking a boat that’s as comfortable to lounge on with friends as it is to play behind while wakesurfing or wakeboarding? Check out the Malibu Wakesetter 26 LSV.

Centurion’s position as a big-time wakesurfing player gets cemented further with the brand’s completely redesigned 2023 Fi25.

Centurion Fi25 throwing a wave
Fully loaded, wakes and waves quickly reach pro level.

The Fi25’s new bow looks more aggressive but proves more comfortable and accommodating thanks to the higher freeboard. The increased freeboard and added comfort carry through to the main cockpit—a huge space offering room for all on board. Rated for 16 people, you can bring several families and not feel crammed. Opt for the sliding rear bench, which locks into four different locations. Optional pop-up seatbacks are also available on both the port and starboard sides of the wraparound seating.

The Fi25 guarantees great action to go with its great seating. Capable of holding a whopping 5,600 pounds of ballast and with Centurion’s signature Opti-V hull, the Fi25 displaces a ton of water. Fully loaded, wakes and waves quickly reach pro level. But you can size and shape them to suit varied skill levels by adjusting the QuickSurf Pro plates or the center-mounted Stinger Wake Plate. Centurion’s patented Ramfill2 system means that ballast fills in less than 90 seconds thanks to a new design with 2-inch ball valves. Built-in factory presets help you get on the water quickly. As you progress and tweak settings to your preferences, you can save them readily.

We found controlling systems using the dual 12-inch Pano side-by-side touchscreens easy, even while driving. These  display a variety of features. Also check fuel flow and range estimates, using the Range of View (ROV) system, a great feature for a large boat like the Fi25. Captains will also appreciate the Corvette-inspired C8 steering wheel; it’s comfortable and, along with numerous other styling cues,  adds to the Fi25’s sporty, aggressive vibe.

When the riding is over, convert the transom into a comfortable lounge with the optional flip-up backrests. Of course, anywhere can be comfortable for lounging on a boat of this size. The extra-large Bimini top easily deploys for shade, and the Roswell DropZone Auto Tower functions even better than it looks.

Seating is upholstered in a variety of Chill Tech vinyl colors, all of which stay cool to the touch in direct sunlight. The redesigned rear-facing flip seat provides not only more seating options, but also an elevated table. At the sun deck, flip-up seatbacks further enhance comfort and utility.

The captain’s chair, along with the Swell Surf and Smart Plate, utilize Smart Actuators, the settings of which you input via the Vision Control Center, a multi-touchscreen array on the dash. Save your surf, wake and seat-height settings, and enjoy a more refined experience on the water. You can even control the LED lighting that, for this year, now includes quad-beam underwater lighting, which illuminates the middle of the boat.

The updated transom remote allows riders to select a side with a swipe. This is just part of the wave- and wake-making systems aboard the Supra SE, including the patented AutoWake, which automatically manipulates the hull to create a precise wake or wave time after time. Supra’s Smart Plate delivers better wake control and can smooth the ride on rough water. Its Swell 3.0 Surf System creates tall, long-pocketed waves with plenty of push, perfect for switching from side to side. Activate the Supra Launch System, and the Swell Plate and Swell Surf System deploy to make the boat plane faster.

There’s more to learn about the 2023 Supra SE, including new gelcoat colors, the patented Dual Stern Thrusters, the Raptor by Indmar engine choices, and more. Check out one for yourself.

With the T235, Axis launches a new model in what has become a sweet-spot size segment for watersports boat buyers. The 23-foot-5-inch T235 delivers both the signature Axis styling as well as a high-level of watersports performance.

The T235 boasts room for 16 friends and family members. We discovered comfort throughout thanks to a higher freeboard and deeper seating. The traditionally shaped bow offers classic looks without mellowing out the bold lines on which Axis built its name (and image). Hinged seating through the T235’s wraparound cockpit provides easy storage access. The sliding rear bench allows comfortable viewing of the action in the wake.

That on-water action is the T235’s bread and butter. With both the trademarked Surf Gate and Power Wedge III systems working in unison with the 4,780 pounds of available ballast, the T235 produces riding surfaces for all styles and ability levels. The Wake Plus hull design not only displaces more water, but it also creates clean, highly consistent wakes and waves. The magic of the Power Wedge III is how it customizes the shape and style of both, making them steeper and more rampy or longer and mellower, which means riders new or beyond advanced will be stoked to get out and catch waves or air.

When the riding is done, there is plenty of room for lounging on the large transom sun pad. A step down to the swim platform makes getting in and out of the T235 easy, and it’s also a great spot for watching the kiddos go for a swim.

Of three different available dash packages, we recommend the Premium Sport Dash option, with its soft touch keypad giving fingertip control of the Power Wedge, Surf Gate, ballast settings, lighting and more. The standard 7-inch touchscreen provides access to all the boat’s vitals and system controls. To the left are the Bluetooth-equipped stereo head unit and a wireless phone-charging station.

If you’re looking for a boat that mixes bold looks with a bit of traditional style, killer performance and ease of use, get on an Axis T235.
