Moomba’s Mojo is certain to work its magic on both the wake and surf crowd. Combining an impressive 4,000 pounds of onboard ballast, a trio of wake-enhancing features at the transom, an autopilot-like system to continually monitor and adjust the boat’s running attitude on the fly—and the abundant power provided by a choice of Indmar Raptor 6.2L engines offering up to 452 pound-feet of torque—it’s ready to produce the near-perfect ride experience for both recreational and advanced riders alike.

Moomba Mojo wakesurfing
AutoWake is a rare feature at this price point that continually monitors the boat’s pitch, roll and displacement via multiple onboard sensors, and much more. Courtesy Moomba Boats

While the Mojo’s recipe for success might start with ballast and power, it’s the transom-mounted Smart Plate that fine-tunes wake size and shape, adjusting the boat’s running angle to affect the height, length and ramp of the wake, making the end result as poppy or mellow as riders desire. Surf enthusiasts will next turn to the Flow surf system’s. The dual surf tabs independently deploy to alter the position of the boat in the water, enhancing the surf wave on a rider’s preferred side, providing plenty of forward push, even allowing riders to switch sides of the wake on the fly.

Moomba’s patented AutoWake system takes much of the stress off the driver and allows them to concentrate on the water. Once the driver or rider chooses their preferred setting on the intuitive optional 7-inch touchscreen display, AutoWake continually monitors the boat’s pitch, roll and displacement via onboard sensors, automatically adjusting ballast tanks to maintain the correct running attitude despite changing conditions or passenger load. It’s a rare feature at this price point.

Moomba Mojo tower

As to the passenger experience, the Mojo’s interior boasts impressive fit-and-finish, with a hybrid-style bow cockpit, increasing comfort forward, and a wraparound bench providing plenty of passenger space in the main cockpit. Moomba puts a welcome twist on the status quo bench seating, providing a lift-out filler cushion at the observer seat that allows the spotter to comfortably sit back with feet on the floor. Add removable backrests to the remaining portside bench and do likewise at the opposite end adjacent to the helm, and you’ve created two more, aft-focused positions. Slide the center bench seat forward into the cockpit, add its optional backrest, and there’s even more aft-facing seating to take in the show happening in the boat’s wake.

The Supra SL offers seemingly everything a wake or surf enthusiast could desire in a flagship tow boat. With room for 17 passengers, an upscale interior chock-full of amenities, and the ability to create ideal wakes and waves for everyone from the pure novice to the pro-level competitive rider, it’s ready to make its case as one of the premier watersports tow boats on the market.

Producing the ultimate wakes and waves takes precise integration of multiple systems. On the SL, that formula starts with subfloor ballast—4,000 pounds of it to settle the hull deeper into the water. Supra’s SmartPlate optimizes the running angle to dial in the resulting wake’s characteristics. Add Swell 3.0 surf system tabs to build surf wakes with lengthy pockets and plenty of push on either side of the boat.

Once dialed in, Supra’s patented AutoWake hull-management system maintains that desired result no matter the conditions, using sensors to maintain pitch, roll and draft, adjusting ballast on the fly in the process. The result? The ideal conditions for riders to perform at their best…and a load of stress and distraction off the driver.

The SL’s interior and amenities are impressive. Bold, dark colors immediately catch the eye throughout the cockpit, a choice made possible by Chill Tech vinyl, which stays cool even under intense sun. Abundant storage is easily accessed via hinged cushions. Forward, the bow cockpit is deep and secure. At the helm, a standard power seat swivels into the cockpit for socializing, moves both fore and aft, and adjusts for height to give the driver the perfect reach to the wheel and unrestricted view forward. A fixed, aft-facing seatback is located behind the helm, the start of wraparound cockpit seating that can handle a crowd with ease. Lift the portside seat cushion opposite to create an additional aft-facing backrest. The rear bench seat can slide forward into the cockpit, flip over into a handy table, or create the ideal two-passenger observer seat (with fold-down armrests) to cheer on riders behind.

The SL’s swim platform, accessed via a convenient walk-through covered (like the cockpit) in Gator Step. A handy transom Surf Locker provides trunk space for two surfboards and wet lifejackets. Close the lid, and the resulting bench seat offers a great space to gear up for a ride.

A choice of Indmar Raptor engines, from 400 to 575 hp, provides all the low-end torque you’ll need to get a fully loaded boat up and on plane. That’s a good thing, because the SL is sure to draw a crowd.

High Points

  • Standard FxONE Power Folding Tower features clamping board racks and Bimini with board storage; drops to below windshield height for trailering and storage.
  • Vision Control Center offers intuitive touchscreen access to media, wake, surf and lighting controls on a trio of touchscreen helm displays.
  • There’s abundant storage below sun pads, seats and port console; in-floor locker for carry-on cooler; cup holders, phone holders, USB and wireless chargers throughout.
  • Available stern thrusters provide precision low-speed control, cleverly controlled via the joystick-like throttle knob.

2022 Supreme ZS252 https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/boats/2022-supreme-zs252-wsbbg/ Thu, 16 Dec 2021 16:45:06 +0000 https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/?p=56907 The ZS252 throws a wave with a large pocket and plenty of push.

Supreme’s ZS252 grabs attention with its striking, aggressive lines. The sheerline, unlike any other, sets this boat apart (and provides inspiration for the “ZS” prefix). The lines are complemented by the cutout windshield and the optional Roswell F-series tower, which also houses the large Bimini shade, speakers and board racks. Notably, the Roswell Bomb racks hold any size of wakesurf board and can be equipped with flag mounts. Fly your colors!

Supreme ZS252 out cruising
The ZS252 features striking, aggressive lines. Garrett Cortese

There’s room aplenty aboard the ZS252 for a crew of 17 and all their gear. Seating features hinged cushions to access stowage and is also customizable. The sliding rear bench slots into three positions, and removable backrests allow crew to face forward or aft. An optional table creates a lounge ready for entertaining. The GatorStep flooring delivers comfortable footing and easy maintenance, and offers buyers a means of customization.

ZS252 helm
The helm is equipped with a 7-inch OmniTouch screen that controls all the boat’s functions. Garrett Cortese

At the helm, Supreme installed a new 7-inch OmniTouch screen that controls all the boat’s functions, including the wakesurf setup, ballast, speed control, navigation and more. The user-friendly operation means a crew can be wakesurfing within minutes of getting on the water. The ballast system consists of six separate zones that combine for up to 5,100 pounds of added weight. This quantity is necessary for such a large boat, and it helps the ZS252 push out sizable wakes and waves. With fine-tuned adjustments to the center wake plate, the waves can be customized to suit a variety of skill levels. A toggle lever mounted behind the steering wheel allows the captain to easily adjust the wake plate. Riders can save their preferences for ballast and plate settings as a user profile.

Behind the boat is where the ZS252 shines. The wakes and waves are large enough for advanced-level riders but easy to customize for riders trying things for the first time. The ZS252’s wave features a large pocket with plenty of push—a necessity for learning crazy tricks or dropping the rope for the first time. Designed for families or large crews focused on wakesurfing and wakeboarding fun, Supreme’s ZS252 ultimately delivers with easy operation that makes the on-water experience more enjoyable.

It’s a badly kept secret that the Axis line of watersports boats comes from industry-leading Malibu Boats. And it’s also no secret that the Axis line is entry-level boats for price-conscious boaters who still want the ability to dial in big waves for surfing, tune the wake for boards, and tow water-skiers and water toys alike.

Axis T250 ready to ride
The T250 is nimble on the water. Garrett Cortese

The Axis T250 is the builder’s first 25-footer, and it delivers bold styling, spacious seating (up to 18), and engine performance that doesn’t disappoint.

T250 helm
The skipper gets the clean Premium Sport Dash with a 7-inch touchscreen. Garrett Cortese

Sitting next to a 2022 Malibu, it’s clear that Axis has its own styling—more chiseled than the Malibu lines, and with fewer paint and upholstery choices. But when it comes to what serious skippers want, the T250 scores on all fronts.

It’s nimble on the water, making rider pickups easy, and it has 5,370 pounds of ballast (when including 1,500 pounds  of simulated ballast from the Power Wedge III) to create pro surf waves and wakeboard wakes. These are fully customizable using the Power Wedge III, which modifies the wake from steep to mellow at the touch of a button, and the Surf Gate, which builds user-choice wakes on either side that can switch quickly from side to side without shifting ballast.

T250 bow seating
There’s wraparound seating in the bow. Garrett Cortese

The layout is simple, with wraparound forward seating, great grab handles, comfortably proportioned seats, and Axis Soft Grip flooring that is both nonslip and easy to clean.

Aft, seats wrap around from the rear-facing companion seat to behind the bucket helm seat, and the Sliding Skybox Seat easily turns the rear seats into a wake stadium. At the helm, the skipper gets the clean Premium Sport Dash with a 7-inch touchscreen, where everything from cruise control to ballast and wake settings are positioned near the throttle hand.

T250 cockpit

Standard power is the Malibu Monsoon M5Di (360 hp), with the M6Di (430 hp) and supercharged 607 hp Malibu Monsoon LT4 powered by GM Marine also available. Backed by the Axis five-year factory warranty on everything from the powertrain to upholstery and audio, you have to look twice to remember this is an entry-level watersports boat.

High Points

  • Great stowage, including an underseat cooler.
  • AW20 tower lowers easily, even with boards in place, and includes a Bimini top for sun protection.
  • Transom has cup holders, optional stereo controls, and Axis Soft Grip deck covering.

Malibu’s Wakesetter 25 LSV is the biggest and baddest model in the manufacturer’s most popular boat series. Translation? You know this boat is going to build truly massive, pro-level wakes capable of satisfying even the most hardcore wake-sports enthusiast.

Wakesetter 25 LSV out on the lake
With room for 18, the Wakesetter 25 LSV can take everyone surfing. Garrett Cortese

The Wakesetter’s magic formula starts with the hull. Malibu’s Wake Plus is designed to displace a lot of water, naturally producing a sizable wake behind the boat. Pumping up that wake even further is the job of a trio of subfloor, molded ballast tanks, which add 2,070 pounds without eating up storage space. Add an optional subfloor bow tank, plug-and-play bags aft, and the optional Power Wedge III that simulates an additional 1,500 pounds, and serious riders will find a drool-worthy 5,180 pounds of weight at their disposal. And that’s before adding the boat’s 18-passenger capacity into the mix.

Wakesetter 25 LSV helm
Malibu’s touchscreen Command Center lets the driver easily dial in everything. Garrett Cortese

The Power Wedge is unique in that it can quickly be positioned at many angles, dialing in both length and height to tailor the wake to a rider’s preference, or dialing the wake up or down to match beginner and pro skill levels. For the surf crowd, Malibu’s optional Surf Gate adds vertical tabs that deploy outward from the transom, diverting water coming off the hull to further build and shape the wake on either side of the boat. The Surf Gate’s quick response even lets riders switch sides on the fly.

Wakesetter 25 LSV bow seating

While the features are many, controlling them is simple thanks to Malibu’s touchscreen Command Center at the helm. Its intuitive graphical interface lets the driver dial in all the above features with a few simple taps, and it remembers individual rider settings to streamline future rides. Malibu’s Surf Band wristband also allows riders to dial in settings themselves. As to the power available to haul all that wake-enhancing weight around the lake, our test boat featured a monstrous engine below the aft sun pad. Malibu’s Monsoon M6Di is rated at 430 hp and produces an impressive 460 pounds of torque. Surf’s up!

  • G5 tower offers an elevated tow point and easily folds for added clearance.
  • Convertible transom seat loungers offer recliner-style comfort at the sandbar.

With a higher freeboard, more ballast and a slew of new features, MasterCraft’s XT24 ushers in a new era of versatility and performance for watersports fans.

The XT24 is highly customizable. Garrett Cortese

Aesthetically, the XT24 blends sleek lines with aggressive touches. With room for 17, comfort and storage abound. MasterCraft’s interior construction is some of the most comfortable available. Take a seat in the sculpted rear cabin seats to port and starboard, and you’ll quickly understand. When it’s time to lounge, opt for the flip-up backrests on the transom seats and enjoy watching the kiddos swim. When it’s time to ride, the convertible rear bench and flip-up backrests make it easy to watch the on-water action.

The fun behind the boat is where the XT24 shines, thanks in large part to the all-new SurfStar system. With new position-sensor technology and stronger actuators for the transom-mounted surf plates, the system delivers more consistent and reliable waves. The 3,600 pounds of ballast combined with the XT24’s hull—based off the award-winning X24—help create waves with tons of push and a large sweet spot, while the wakeboard wakes are symmetrical with a nice transition for catching big air.

XT24 helm
The helm can be outfitted with sporty analog gauges and a small touchscreen, or a larger dual-screen setup. Garrett Cortese

With a wide variety of options, the XT24 is highly customizable. From flooring to windshields and towers to helm systems, the XT24 can be built exactly how buyers want and need. Our test model was equipped with the brand-new Z10 tower, a fully automated power tower that raises and lowers with the push of a button. Clamping board racks are standard on any tower, making board storage easy and convenient.

The helm can be outfitted with sporty analog gauges and a small touchscreen, or a larger dual-screen setup. Our test model featured the large touchscreen, allowing for easy access to the XT24’s systems. Setting up for surf or wakeboard action is a breeze, and if a rider finds certain custom settings to suit their needs, they can be saved as a user profile. With Ilmor’s 6.0-liter engine and the 2-to-1 gear ratio, there’s plenty of torque for getting out of the hole, while the 92 gallons of fuel means the fun will last all day—and then some.

High Points

  • Standard transom walkthrough makes boarding a breeze while keeping feet off upholstery.
  • XT24 can be equipped with up to five wireless chargers.
  • Customize with Chromax tower and windshield inlays that are color-matched to the hull.

Designed to bring more value to the customer and deliver more bang for the buck, Supreme’s all-new S240 delivers 24 feet of comfort and endless wave capabilities at a lower price point.

Supreme S240 running
The S240 is a great-looking boat on and off the water. Garrett Cortese

With a new running surface, higher freeboard and unique hybrid bow, the S240 is nothing like previous iterations of the model line. The S240 displays a more traditional sheerline, which, when combined with the shape and slope of the bow, makes for a great-looking boat on and off the water. The EZ-V hull, similar to sister company Centurion’s Opti-V hull, features a deep 20-degree deadrise at the transom. This gives the S240 a smooth ride in choppy water, while also displacing more water and kicking up excellent surf waves.

S240 helm
The captain has easy access to all the boat’s systems from the 7-inch touchscreen. Garrett Cortese

To help create the wakes and waves, the S240 is equipped with 4,800 pounds of ballast as well as the QuickSurf system. Choose which side you want to surf, and a transom-mounted surf plate deploys to create lift on one side of the boat and displacement on the surf side. From there, a center-mounted transom plate can be fine-tuned to change the wave’s shape and attitude. With room for 14, it doesn’t take much to get the S240 to kick up wakes and waves the whole crew can enjoy.

S240 bow seating
The interior is durable and comfortable. Garrett Cortese

A new stainless-steel tower complements the S240’s polished lines well. When equipped with the optional SewLong Bimini, shade is easy to come by for almost the entire main cabin, and the Wet Sounds audio package ensures everybody can enjoy the tunes. Optional Roswell Bombshell 2.0 racks are versatile and some of the easiest to use.

On board, the S240 offers a secure ride, thanks in part to its higher freeboard. Seating is customizable with the sliding rear bench so crew can face aft to catch the action. The Spradling vinyl features a 17 mm top coat, which makes the interior durable and comfortable. At the helm, the captain has easy access to all the boat’s systems from the 7-inch touchscreen.

Overall, the S240 is a great option for families looking to get into water-sports action. It offers versatile performance and ease of use in a simple, clean, convenient form factor.

High Points

  • Outside the Box (OTB) vinyl looks great and does not get too hot.
  • Transom storage compartments are great for wet items or can be used as coolers.
  • QuickSurf can be customized to create an ideal wave for a variety of riders.

With last year’s debut of the Ri245 and Ri265, Centurion upped the game of its premium watersports boats. For 2022, the mojo continues with the Ri230, behind which the wakes and waves are world-class and customizable, making the new boat a must-see.

The boat sports the new Opti-V hull. It features some of the deepest deadrise in the segment—20 degrees—which helps shape wakes and waves, and delivers a smoother ride in choppy water. With 5,400 pounds of onboard ballast available at the push of the touchscreens, the Ri230 can displace a lot of water, further adding to the performance capabilities.

Centurion also updated QuickSurf, its transom-mounted plates to port and starboard that deploy to create the sizable, endless waves. A center-mounted plate at the transom can customize the wave’s shape and size. Set at zero, the wave is steeper and larger. Shift the attitude toward 100, and the wave gets more mellow and longer. All settings are easily controlled and customized from the Revo side-by-side 12-inch touchscreens. All the boat’s vitals and functions are easily accessible with an intuitive menu system. New for 2022 is the vertically mounted 5-inch touchscreen dubbed the ROV—Range of View—just to the right of the Revo screens. The ROV provides the captain access to the bow and transom-mounted cameras—great for monitoring riders and swimmers in the water or putting the boat on the trailer—as well as fuel-flow and trip data. No other watersports manufacturer provides fuel-consumption data.

With room for 14, the Ri230 offers comfortable and customizable seating throughout. The back bench can be slid into the cabin to convert to rear-facing seating for watching all the action on the water, or a table can be added for when the crew needs to put out food and drinks. The bench also contains a rigid step pad so the upholstery is spared when stepping in and out from the transom. Up on the engine pads, two convertible backrests can be deployed. The SewLong Bimini top is easily deployed with the Roswell Drop Zone tower and provides ample coverage for long days in the sun.

High Points

  • World-class wakes and waves in a compact package.
  • QuickLaunch utilizes surf plates for quick planing with minimal bow rise.
  • Ramfill accounts for over 50 percent of the Ri230’s ballast and fills in 90 seconds.

The XStar S offers pro-performance capabilities like its sibling, with 200 extra pounds of internal ballast and new transom chaise-style lounge seats.

With the new SurfStar system engaged, the XStar S boasts 4,300 pounds of ballast to help produce clean, endlessly rideable wakes and waves. Integrated user profiles make it simple to get started riding, while a sliding scale on the touchscreen display allows for easy customization. Slide the scale down to 1 to stretch the wave and mellow its face. Slide it up to 7 for maximum height and vert. Additionally, surf plates mounted at each transom corner can be individually tweaked to modify wave characteristics. With all this, the XStar S is equally great for families just getting started as for experienced riders dialing in a wave exactly how they like it.

MasterCraft utilizes comfortable, supple seating materials. Add in the optional CoolFeel vinyl and your seats won’t get scorching hot under a blazing sun. Seating is customizable with the convertible rear bench, which is not only comfortable, but also one of the easiest to operate that we’ve tested. But the star of the comfort show on the XStar S is the pair of transom chaise-style loungers. With extendable head- and footrests, the seats feel similar to a recliner, in both angle and comfort. Enjoy!

At the helm, the captain is treated to MasterCraft’s dual-screen setup. The center screen displays all the XStar S’s vitals, while the large touchscreen to the right provides intuitive access to menus and systems. With a couple of finger taps, it’s easy to adjust ballast, speed control, music and more. Optional with the XStar S is a powerful stern thruster that can spin the boat in a full 360 in under 30 seconds—and with controls integrated into the throttle, it’s simple to use.

Our test model featured MasterCraft’s new Hydrolock tower with electronically actuated solenoids. Push and hold a button on top of the tower, and it easily lowers or raises manually. Release the button, and the tower locks into place, making it extra-safe.

Top to bottom, the XStar S combines luxury and performance in a 23-foot package that should check the boxes for even the most discerning buyers.

How many times will feet step on your seats during the course of your boat ownership? Supreme might not be keeping count, but the builder is keeping it in mind. The upholstery aboard the S220 is Comfort Strong Marine Vinyl by Spradling. It is super-tough, sewn together with Gore Tenara thread by Gore-Tex—not what we find aboard most so-called value boats, but Supreme is out to redefine that term with its S220.

This 22-footer sports the new EZ-V hull design, seats 14, and carries up to 4,400 pounds of ballast in six locations evenly distributed around the boat. Yeah, big waves and monster wakes without lots of big, clumsy bow rise. Choose between the new stainless-steel Supreme Shine tower (SST) or the upgraded F-Series tower by Roswell with gelcoat color-matched tower shields. The standard PCM power delivers 409 foot-pounds of torque.

Knowing how elevated noise levels wear you down, cause everyone to yell, and plain sound like low quality, Supreme makes a science of quieting boats, as it does with the S220. The efficient, level-running hull design helps by requiring less rpm for any given task. It’s unibody construction dampens water noise and vibration. Even its wave- and wake-shaping technology has quiet built in—check the patented Silent Stinger wake-plate exhaust system.

The S220 sports lines and styling that look fresh but haven’t forsaken the form-following-function mantra that gives so many classic boats their good looks. This boat’s cockpit is deep, providing comfy seating backrests and a confident feel. Combined with a sheerline that descends aft from the bow, this makes for a boat that does a better job at keeping the water on the outside.

At the helm, the center-mounted Omni touchscreen controls wake- and wave-shaping functions, the standard Zero Off speed control, audio and more. This screen is daylight-viewable, features color iconography, and connects to phones via Bluetooth. Activate navigation lights, docking lights, the bilge and other critical  elements with switches.
