ALEX, WOULD YOU RATHER…

Take a wake trip with a crew through Europe or Asia?
Alex: Europe, for sure! I just love the European culture, the small towns and the food, plus it’s way easier to travel in Europe than in Asia. Everyone who has experienced traveling in Asia knows what I am talking about.

Compete or free ride and shoot?
Alex: Free ride and shoot! I prefer riding with people than riding against them!

Shred pristine park-built features or janky backyard setups?
Alex: Janky backyard setups are pretty thrilling! Even simple tricks can be damn hard and sketchy!

Hit mega ramps or traditional wake park kickers?
Alex: Mega Ramps!!! You can hit them all day without getting sore knees. I don’t get why wakeboarders are still hitting kickers without landing ramps… Do you think snowboarders or FMX riders would hit a kicker without a landing ramp? I don’t think so.

Be a professional snowboarder or skateboarder, if you couldn’t be a professional wakeboarder?
Alex: I can imagine being a snowboard pro way better than being a skater. I just can’t get it in my head how they’re doing some tricks. It’s insane. I choose pro skater!

Be able to travel with all your friends in a private jet, anywhere for free or be able to teleport, just yourself and your luggage instantly?
Alex: I think teleporting. I’ve lost too many bags this year and I don’t know how it is on private jets. I just don’t want to lose any more bags… Sorry friends.

Winch new spots or ride new parks with new features?
Alex: Winch new spots. It’s just so different. More work but more rewarding.

Chase the endless summer around the world or be able to have an off season to yourself?
Alex: If I do the same over and over again I get bored and lose motivation. I need my days off to charge my batteries and keep the fire burning, you know? So yeah, I definitely need an off season! Shouldn’t be too long though. I freak out after a month without riding!

Do more double flips or spin to win?
Alex: Double flips! Spin to win looks boring and it just doesn’t impress me. Who cares if you can spin like a hurricane?

Get a cover or become Rail Rider of the Year?
Alex: Puh, this one is tough… but I think Rail Rider of the Year. It takes more to stand out through the whole season than getting one good shot which makes it on a cover.

DG was asked to help support the Fire, Water & Pipes event at Kingwinch Wakepark again this year, so he traveled up to Russia to work with the crew in designing the setup. Mike Dowdy hails from the great state of Michigan and appreciates his Midwest roots. This trip was planned as a way to showcase the area he grew up in and the beautiful lakes where he began his wakeboarding career.

In this video, Dowdy heads back up north near the Apostle Islands: a rarely ridden and mostly unknown wake gem in Wisconsin to ride amongst the sea caves and channels carved out between the beautiful islands on Lake Superior. With a winch and behind the boat, Dowdy takes some time off from his usual training to explore the beautiful location, bringing the highest levels of wakeboarding to the Great Lakes.

INSIGHT – Trever Maur, From the Beginning

Trever Maur’s path to professional wakeboarding can be traced back to 90’s when film had the more impact on our sport than anything else. Coming from a family that cherished their time on the water will strike a chord as many have developed this passion from similar roots. Enjoy the beginning of a new series from Hyperlite called “Insight” and get to know Trever the way we do.

INSIGHT – Trever Maur, The Struggle

Trever Maur’s 2nd installment of the “Insight” series highlights the challenges that go into capturing a clip or two and the satisfaction of getting it done. Part 2, “The Struggle” takes us back to the spring when California was getting tons of water opening up urban winch spots. It’s amazing what goes into nailing just one shot. Enjoy.

INSIGHT – Trever Maur, Present Tense

The “Insight” series from Trever Maur is happening at this very moment. Part 3 “Present Tense” brings us up to speed on exciting times and changes in Trever’s life. He also shares with us his vision on what being a pro in today’s sport is all about as “Insight” brings us into the now.

The O’Neill Wakeboard Team is on a road trip adventure across Germany: one tour bus, one winch and one book chock full of challenges to be completed, promising top-notch wakeboard action and excitement both on and off the water. In four webisodes, O’Neill will show the most spectacular shots and the funniest moments from this one-of-a-kind trip.

For two weeks, the six-man international wakeboard crew assembled around Nico von Lerchenfeld journeyed across Germany in search of unridden terrain far from the beaten path of the cable parks. A double-decker tour bus complete with trailer served as the crew’s mode of transportation, providing room for a winch, kickers and other equipment as well as bunk-bed accommodation for the athletes. Along a journey of over 2,000 kilometers, the team found exactly what they were looking for: extraordinary urban winch spots.

Along the way, the “Book of Challenges” provided an extra portion of fun and excitement. With over 50 tasks ranging from difficult to downright absurd, the challenges demanded not only extremely high-level riding from the team, but also tested their mettle off the water as well. In the first episode, Royal Winching — as required by the book — the riders were challenged to ride three different locations with a royal backdrop, while drawing straws to determine who would serve as the noble head-of-state over the next days.

After three days the team departed the imperial ambience of Bayreuth and Dresden and set sail for the capital Berlin, where a paradise of of winch spots along the Spree River awaited them. This next tour stop provided its own wealth of excitement as the Book of Challenges started into a new chapter, and it didn’t take long before the first encounter with local law enforcement occurred. How the Berlin police react to wakeboarding in front of Germany’s main government building, and whether it’s actually possible to build a functioning wakeboard with only €40 worth of material from the hardware store — these are questions answered in Episode 2, to be released on June 20, 2017.
