Check out the latest edit from wakeskater Jake Ramsdell. You’ll recognize jake from our Okeechobee Runnin’ series, as well as some banger clips from the Indmar Trick of the Year reel at Wake Awards. Jake isn’t just one of the raddest wakeskaters on the water these days, he’s also an awesome dude. With the backing of Leaf wakeskates and Ambush, he’s got a new pro model, too.

A Shark Boat Wakeskating Adventure in the Mountains https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/shark-boat-wakeskating-adventure-in-mountains/ Tue, 07 Aug 2018 12:07:00 +0000 https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/?p=52116 Four young women, one old boat, and a handful of unique riding spots in the Sierra Nevada

For most of us who live and breath the wake lifestyle, an adventure might consist of taking our boat to a new riding spot, trying out a cable park while on vacation, or maybe even a houseboat trip on the famed Lake Powell. Wakeskater Jen GilanFarr is not like most when it comes to a wake-getaway, though. The Lake Tahoe native, with her semi-infamous “Shark Boat” (a 14-foot 1962 Alumacraft Maracaibo outboard), has spent much of the last few summers exploring the numerous mountain lakes that dot the Sierra Nevada range she calls home. Each time she is usually accompanied by a few friends and maybe a furry companion or two. It’s usually unpredictable, often cold, but always worth it. Her latest journey took place last month where she and fellow lady wakeskaters Shelley Rush, Lindsay Katt, and Mahallia Budds went to some epic spots. From high-altitude lakes with deep blue water and snow-capped surroundings to ghost towns and hot springs, the girls did it up – all in the name of being on the water and having fun together. And all this went down with Jen in a walking boot – she dislocated her ankle days before the trip was to begin – but she wasn’t about to cancel on exploring new spots with friends. In a day and age where so many people seem to be “living their best life” by perusing others’ via social media, it’s refreshing to see passion being put to use in unique ways like this.

As Jen put it when the trip was over: “We’ve become addicted to ‘the next stop’ – to the mystery of what lies ahead and to the adventures on the road that lead us there. Beyond just riding, we are after the landscape, alpine lakes and rugged mountains. Wakeskating for us has become more and more about the adventure, seeking out untouched waters, foreign landscapes, and the long roads that lead us there.”

This type of wake tripping might not not have the luxury of a houseboat getaway or exotic cable park, but who says the size of your boat or the distance you travel determines how much fun you have? Plus, it’s Shark Week, and this Shark Boat more than fits the bill.

Istudiomo Is a Beautiful Wakeskate Film Worth Watching https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/istudiomo-is-beautiful-wakeskate-film-worth-watching/ Wed, 14 Feb 2018 03:36:43 +0000 https://www.wakeboardingmag.com/?p=46830 An inside look at the numbers that make up this epic wakeskate video

If by now you haven’t seen the epic wakeskate film Istudiomo you need to do yourself a favor and check it out now. The film’s creator, Andrew Roehm, is as dedicated and passionate as they come when it comes to wakeskating. He literally put blood, sweat, tears and a lot of dollars into making this Istudiomo come to life (as did all of the riders and many others). Don’t worry though, it’s free to watch. Yes, free. You don’t have to pay anything. But you should. Supporting film projects like this is what keeps them alive, which in turn keeps you stoked, which in turns makes you feel more alive. So if you want to feel alive, then give people like Andrew Roehm some money. No, that’s not a threat…

At any rate, Istudiomo is a gorgeous video filled with some of the most epic wakeskating ever caught on camera. Years went into the making of it, and once you watch it you’ll see why. Given the insane amount of time and energy that went into it, we figured it was only appropriate to break down some of the insane numbers that make the film what it is.

  • Length of movie: 1:01:16
  • Number of riders: 13
  • Number of countries: 7
  • Amount of video shot (in GB or TB): 5TB of usable 1080p/4K video (AKA ~3 straight months of video)
  • Number of cameras used: 6
  • Number of times cameras splashed: ~60
  • Number of drones crashed: 4
  • Number of days filming: ~300
  • Number of hours editing: ~250
  • Number of flights you took: 39
  • Number of times you said “Just one more!”: It was usually them saying it! Probably around three per session.
  • Number of run-ins with the law: 53, I actually kept really good track of this! 26 kickouts (14 by locals, 12 by police/park rangers), 21 let us stay, three locals stopped them from kicking us out, two cops talked other cops out of busting us, one ticket then kicked us out (ticket disputed and dropped).
  • Footage that was lost to a digital demon (bad card/HD): Surprisingly none, always have backups!
  • Number of clips missed filming: Just one… Sorry, Nick T!

ISTUDIOMO: A WAKESKATE FILM

Istudiomo isn’t a real word. It doesn’t have any meaning. We’ve heard it pronounced a dozen different ways, and they’re all right. It’s just something that didn’t exist before and now it does.

Because of this fact, Istudiomo has every opportunity to be whatever we want it to be. We can cast off for any far away place and wakeskating gives us the luxury of many options to choose from.

We’ll venture to crystal clear springs, coastline swells, cold mountain creeks, landlocked lakes and swampy river basins, our only limitation is the water and luckily there’s plenty of it.

Our Istudiomo logo is popularly regarded as a symbol for rebooting or restarting, and that’s just what we’re doing. We are rebooting the wakeskate full-length in an age of quick clips, social media, and instant gratification.

We are putting in the work and preparing for the long haul of redefining our sport. This trailer is the first step in reintroducing ourselves.

Hello there, we are Istudiomo, we are wakeskating, and we are delighted to make your acquaintance.

YOUR LAST…

Cable set:
Last Sunday at 9 a.m. sharp, filming for a little cable edit coming out soon.

Song you listened to:
“Roll With It” by Easton Corbin

Meal:
Three-cheese stuffed tortellini with vodka sauce (nonalcoholic) and grilled chicken in spicy Italian dressing

New trick learned at the park: I’ve been really digging nose blunts lately.

Person you taught how to ride:
Man, probably just helping out some kids at OWC. A couple of tips here and there.

Major purchase:
I finally upgraded from the iPhone 4 to a 6s, if that counts.

Fatherly thing you did:
Holding my 2-year-old son up to put the ball in the hoop!

Wakeskate road trip:
I went out to Battle Falls like a month ago at Reed Hansen’s. That’s pretty far for me. Been a slow winter on trips.

Good deed:
I gave a homeless person some snacks from my lunchbox.

Concert you went to:
I went to a Colt Ford concert some years ago by boat out in Clermont. Pretty wild time.

Movie:
Probably American Sniper. I feel like a grandpa with all these last questions.

Vacation:
New Smyrna Beach with the family

Switch trick you learned:
Switch frontside 540 off the kicker

Non-wake-related website you visited:
Surfline always. I gotta know when the next swell is coming.

Text you sent:
To James Balzer, trying to figure out when we’re going to hang out since he’s back in the USA for a couple of weeks.

Advice you received from Byerly:
Happy wife, happy life.

Pair of wakeskate shoes purchased:
Nike SB Stefan Janoski. The best shoes ever.

Doubles partner at the park:
Brandon Thomas. My rope ended up hitting the GoPro off the stick and we lost the footage and camera from that day. Haven’t ridden doubles since.

Person you talked to on the phone:
My smoking-hot wife

“In between all the van trips, the team shoots, The Wakeskate Tour stops, the foreign adventures, & the endless laps around Florida, I find myself lucky enough to be relaxing on the sunny little spit of Gulf Coast sand I grew up on: Anna Maria Island, FL. Shallow salty flats of grass & sand, mangrove bays, & the occasional bump of swell. During the “down time” from all of my adventures, me & my friends will inevitably find ourselves out on the water with my SeaDoo & some kind of HD camera, and so even after the team videos & travel features are done, I’m still left with a big folder full of mostly-unused footage from those magical island sessions. These specific kinds of videos of mine have taken many forms over the last decade & I’m stoked to present to you this year’s rendition… “BUCKETS.” Enjoy it.” – Nick Taylor

Supra Boats would like to congratulate #TeamSupraBoats Athlete, Reed Hansen (@reedhansen) for winning his 8th Wakeskate World Championship Title this past weekend at the Supra Boats Wakeboard World Championships Prestented by Rockstar in Portugal!

The conditions were not the most ideal, as the wind was unpredictable on the beautiful Lago Azul in Portugal. Reed pulled through and won his semi-finals heat and was going into the finals the next day! The following morning wake skaters took to the dock, everyone was going big behind the SE550 despite the choppy conditions. Reed was last off the dock and he had his work cut out, after falling twice on his first pass he was able to get up and stand up his entire 2nd pass with some of his more advanced tricks which placed him in 1st, for the 8th time!

Congrats Reed! Here are some photos from the event.  (This is also right after he had won wake skate trick of the year at the Wake Awards! Reed is on a roll and we are #suprastoked for him!)
