A substantial steering wheel with a right-flanked touchscreen, crowned with brightly lit gauges — you would think we’re talking about a Mercedes, but it’s actually the X23’s automotive-inspired helm. Just about everything is billet aluminum with impeccable machining. The analog dials and throttle knob are stout and responsive. Tweeters stick out of the dash for a big sound that’s best enjoyed at the plush captain’s chair, which is about as comfortable as it gets. Everything about the X23’s helm is classic MasterCraft overstated practicality. WBM

Malibu 23 LSV

It’s a pleasure to helm this redesigned mainstay in the Malibu line. A 12-inch touchscreen does everything but steer the boat, and the auxiliary screen has in-depth settings that perfect the driving experience. The traditional bow is exceptionally well-balanced from front to back, making for responsive turning. The Power Wedge lifts the rear of the boat out of the water for faster-than-average takeoffs in a fully loaded 23-footer. The available Sport package gives you a multifunction dial you’ll come to rely on for hands-on driving and comfort adjustments while running down the lake. WBM

Supra SC

Everything you need to drive the Supra SC is included in the Vision Touch screen and the analog controls, which are actually integrated into the steering wheel. Just like in your car, you can finally control your boat without taking your hands off the wheel. The touchscreen’s driver presets offer luxury and customization to the nth degree. There’s even a backup camera so you can reverse without hitting anything. A crisp throttle with premium underwater gear makes the SC responsive to the wheel, and the Indmar Raptor engine propels the beefy boat with ease. WBM

The personal choice of Brian Grubb, Malibu’s Wakesetter 23 LSV is an absolute surf powerhouse. The hull was tweaked slightly for optimal use with Surf Gate, and the result is one of the best surf boats on the water today. The original surf system, Surf Gate is still in the lead with convenient and practical features like the horn system, which alerts you when the gate is going to switch for perfect transfers every time. Surf Gate throws a really impressive wave on this hull, and the best part is you don’t have to move any weight around. Surf Gate is controlled through the digital dash, which is all new for 2015. A massive 12-inch center screen puts you in control of primary driving functions, and an auxiliary screen houses deeper functionality that lets you truly customize your 23 LSV. Surf profiles for both sides of the boat can have steep and mellow waves, so you only have to hit the button to call up a perfect curl. The system takes care of ballast, the Power Wedge, speed control and Surf Gate, so all you have to do is press the button, let the ballast fill, and put down the throttle. This is one of the more easy-to-surf boats out there because the wave isn’t fickle or touchy; it just throws a massive curl on either side without much fuss. Upgrade to maximum ballast for a massive 2,450 pounds of tank and bag ballast so you can get a pro-level wave whenever you want.

Dig This: The 23 LSV sports the new G4 tower, which is improved for 2015 for better functionality and aesthetics. The tower has an easy collapse function, so it doesn’t matter whether you run it fully loaded or basic – it will always come down and up easily. The locking function is simple and completely devoid of pinch point. On top of all this, the structure is made with a honeycomb design that makes it incredibly rigid and sturdy.

Stat: The 23 LSV is the best-selling boat in the Malibu line, which should give you an indication of how popular this hull is, considering how popular the Malibu brand is. We can only anticipate more popularity, considering the improvements made with the redesign.

Malibu‘s Wakesetter 23 LSV is a staple in the wakeboard world, and it’s one of the best surf boats on the market thanks to its just-right size and perfect hull design. The tower is all new for 2015. The new G4 has some great features. The handles to collapse it are integrated into the side frame so there’s never any danger of pinching. LED lighting is recessed into the tower and controllable through the touch screen. The G4 also has a counterbalance so it’s easy to collapse no matter what you’ve got on it. Next up is the new dash. It’s all about luxury and convenience. The 12-inch tilting display at the top has just about everything you need in a new interface that’s way more intuitive, and the auxiliary screen shows maps, music and deeper functions like screen backlighting, service alarms, depth alarms and even throttle profiles. You’ll love the new rotary switch to the left. It lets you take care of everything you need to drive the boat with hands-on analog functionality. We obviously have to mention Surf Gate. This hull is one of the best in the Malibu line for Surf Gate, and one of the best on the water for surf system boats. The 23 LSV has a ton of push and it’s really easy to use with the new rotary switch. The system has horns that tell you exactly when the gate will transfer so it’s more realistic to do technical tricks from one side to the other while you’re riding.

The most elite contest of the 2014 wakeboard season is being announced to take place at Puerto Cancun, Mexico October 3-5, 2014. This first-time event, pulled by the 2015 Malibu Wakesetter 23 LSV, will bring the highest caliber wake riders to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the World Wakeboard Association at one of the top rated vacation areas in the world. Riders will battle it out for a piece of the $40,000 (USD) and the $15,000 overall prize pool as the final stop of the 2014 WWA Wakeboard World Series.
