Here’s a completely new kind of boat. We’ve run electric watersports boats and we’ve run gas-powered watersports boats. We even once tested a watersports boat powered by a diesel engine. The Genesis Marine Technoolgies 24 is being billed as the first hybrid-powered wakesurf boat.

The drivetrain of the Genesis Marine Technologies 24 is certainly unique. Called the Trident Hybrid System, it consists of a battery pack, a race-bred electric motor, and a gasoline-powered auxiliary-power unit, referred to as the APU. Here’s the main thing about this system: Run it electrically or power it in hybrid mode with the APU. This provides this boat with the quiet and eco-friendliness of electric power, without the limited run time or range anxiety of pure electric vessels.

Genesis claims this boat is “designed by riders for riders,” and in talking with its team, we believe them. Rated for 16 people and a maximum horsepower of 530, it puts out 500 foot-pounds of maximum torque. It offers 4,500 pounds of ballast that is said to fill and drain in four minutes. The computer-developed Genesis Gen X Hull Design reportedly captures the essence of natural waves, producing a 4-foot high 20-foot long wakesurf wave, It comes standard with the Genesis Command Center, a 12-inch display that’s intuitive to use and controls all functions, including the exclusive Genesis Launch Control System. Service is handled via app-based telematics.

Some Key Points:

  • The boat is said to produce a 4-foot wakesurfing wave that is 20-feet long.
  • In Hybrid Mode, the company says you can surf  all day and the battery charges as you run.
  • In Electric Mode the makers claim three hours of wakesurfing or one hour of wakeboarding before needing to run in hybrid mode, or recharge.

Genesis is offering two years of free maintenance to the first 100 buyers to reserve a build slot ($500) Price starts at $184,995. Deliveries commence spring 2025.

MasterCraft Boat Company, a subsidiary of MasterCraft Boat Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCFT) and the world’s best-selling towboat brand for the past five years, has introduced the all-new XT25. The MasterCraft XT25 was completely redesigned from the hull up and offers industry-leading wakesurfing capabilities, increased ballast capacity, and class-leading comfort for up to 18 passengers.

In 2024, the redesigned XT25 will introduce two new features. The XT25 features an updated version of MasterCraft’s SurfStar system with built-in foiling characteristics for both left- and right-side riders. In addition, the XT25 is equipped with standard underwater exhaust, which reduces fumes and pollution inside and behind the boat, allowing riders and passengers to enjoy music and conversation even more.

“The XT25 adds yet another model to the world’s most robust towboat lineup, which offers a diverse range at varying price points – all without sacrificing the world-class performance, undeniable reliability, class-leading comfort, and innovative connectivity that’s synonymous with MasterCraft,” said Matt McDevitt, MasterCraft Vice President of Global Sales. “The XT25 also completes the XT family lineup, which is now available with models ranging from 20-feet to 25-feet. With more wave options, more comfort, more connectivity, and more performance and reliability than ever before, the XT25 is perfect for the families looking for more.”

MasterCraft’s SurfStar, the industry’s premier wake and wave system, takes center stage. This comprehensive, integrated system comprises ballast, proprietary software, hull shape, and wake-shaping devices with military-grade actuators and precise position sensors. Using the SurfStar system, the XT25 can fine-tune and customize the wave for any operator, delivering powerful and symmetrical waves for surfing and ideal wakes for wakeboarding. With a user-friendly interface, a variety of rider profiles, and presets, the XT25 can accommodate any riding style or talent level, from steep and barreling to long and smooth. The XT25’s ballast capacity has been increased to a total of 3,200 pounds to help it produce the best wave in its class. As a result, the XT25 offers enhanced performance straight off the assembly line.

The XT25 will be equipped with a standard Ilmor Marine 6.0L MPI engine with 380 horsepower and 407 lb-ft of torque. With the optional upgrade to the more potent 430 horsepower 6.2L GDI engine, riders can enjoy more time on the water with the most responsive, robust, and dependable engines in the industry. For those interested in salt water, the 5.3L GDI has an aluminum block with efficient close-cooling that generates 365 horsepower at higher RPMs for outstanding top-end performance. Moreover, Ilmor provides an unmatched seven-year, 1000-hour warranty.

The XT25 is constructed from premium materials and rigorously tested to satisfy MasterCraft’s exacting safety and quality standards. Utilizing the finest available materials in the construction process guarantees an unrivaled ride and drive, as well as the best possible on-water experience.

When a MasterCraft boat departs the factory, investments in dependability do not end. MasterCraft’s award-winning vendor network spans the nation and the globe in order to provide unmatched customer service. MasterCare, an industry-leading five-year, 500-hour comprehensive warranty with minimal exclusions, comes standard on every boat.

The XT25’s U-shaped seating area accommodates up to 18 passengers, providing ample space for everyone to relax and enjoy the journey. The XT25 is designed to optimize your comfort and enjoyment on the water with a larger cockpit, spacious bow with lounge space, and ample storage options. Passengers can take in all the action behind the boat with optional convertible seating.

CoolFeel vinyl is up to 30 percent cooler than standard marine vinyl, keeping families cool and comfortable even on the warmest days.

The XT25’s telematics enable remote access to the vessel’s vitals via the MasterCraft Connect app. This standard feature on the XT25 enables owners to access vital boat data, such as battery and fuel levels, bilge status, and engine health, via their mobile devices, while also alerting local dealers of service requirements. Digital switching is now incorporated into the MasterCraft Connect app for 2024, allowing boaters to turn the battery switch on or off while away from the vessel.

Featuring crisp and defined sound quality from Klipsch audio, riders can enjoy music just as the recording engineer intended thanks to the XT25’s standard six-speaker advanced audio package.

A single screen setup is located behind the steering wheel, allowing the driver to fill ballast, select preferable wave settings, and control the music. There is also the option to upgrade to a dual-screen dashboard with tower camera for added convenience and functionality.

The XT25 is also available with three tower options: the Z6, Z8, and Z10. Each of the three tower options is the ideal combination of form and function and can be readily lowered or raised. Finally, store boards with ease using standard clamping board carriers. Combined with MasterCraft’s updated bimini board storage, the XT25 offers the industry’s most board storage. The XT25 has an optional swim step that lowers down effortlessly from the swim platform, allowing everyone on board to enter and exit the water with ease.

The MSRP of the XT25 will be $205,658. To ensure the most accurate price, customers are encouraged to contact their local MasterCraft dealer to discuss options, details, and rebates. To find out more, please visit MasterCraft.com.

If you’re just looking to cruise, the Craz can hit speeds over 40 mph. Courtesy Moomba Boats

The Moomba Craz is a 22-foot boat designed to bring a premier wave to a recreational surf crowd while still being able to entertain a crew on the water. It offers a lot of great amenities combined with a full-on ballast and surf system that produces a great wave on a midsize—and midpriced—watersports boat. It has a lot to offer for a family with surfers and boarders of all levels.

Let’s start with the watersports features. The first thing to note is the power: The standard 350 hp Indmar Raptor 400 inboard engine produces 404 foot-pounds of torque, helping it excel at the slower speeds needed to produce a good wave. If you want to get even more gnarly, upgrade to the 410 hp Indmar Raptor 450 that produces over 452 foot-pounds of torque. The surfing between 2,500 and 3,500 rpm is the Raptor’s sweet spot. If you’re just looking to cruise, the Craz can hit speeds over 40 mph, which not every watersports boat can do.

You can control everything from the standard 7-inch touchscreen display at the helm. Courtesy Moomba Boats

Combine the Indmar Raptor with the G ballast system capable of doubling the boat’s dry weight, the Flow Surf System that helps you sculpt the wave, and the AutoWake technology that lets you customize everything to each individual rider, and you’re set for a day of awesomeness. Not an experienced surf driver? AutoWake lets even novice captains set up everything with the push of a button, taking out the guesswork.

For half the price of some of the tournament-level boats currently available, you get many great standard features, including premium Roswell Triton II board racks with R-Flex suspension technology to keep your boards secure while being adjustable and easy to access. The Wet Sounds premium audio system equips the boat with a subwoofer and Revolution Series speakers that pump clean, crisp sound from the sport tower. You can control everything from the standard 7-inch touchscreen display at the helm.

Did we mention the Moomba Craz’s good looks? It has the athletic style of a classic watersports boat while still maintaining a heavy dose of creature comforts for the entire crew. Oh yeah, that crew can be as many as 15 people.

Moomba’s Mojo is certain to work its magic on both the wake and surf crowd. Combining an impressive 4,000 pounds of onboard ballast, a trio of wake-enhancing features at the transom, an autopilot-like system to continually monitor and adjust the boat’s running attitude on the fly—and the abundant power provided by a choice of Indmar Raptor 6.2L engines offering up to 452 pound-feet of torque—it’s ready to produce the near-perfect ride experience for both recreational and advanced riders alike.

Moomba Mojo wakesurfing
AutoWake is a rare feature at this price point that continually monitors the boat’s pitch, roll and displacement via multiple onboard sensors, and much more. Courtesy Moomba Boats

While the Mojo’s recipe for success might start with ballast and power, it’s the transom-mounted Smart Plate that fine-tunes wake size and shape, adjusting the boat’s running angle to affect the height, length and ramp of the wake, making the end result as poppy or mellow as riders desire. Surf enthusiasts will next turn to the Flow surf system’s. The dual surf tabs independently deploy to alter the position of the boat in the water, enhancing the surf wave on a rider’s preferred side, providing plenty of forward push, even allowing riders to switch sides of the wake on the fly.

Moomba’s patented AutoWake system takes much of the stress off the driver and allows them to concentrate on the water. Once the driver or rider chooses their preferred setting on the intuitive optional 7-inch touchscreen display, AutoWake continually monitors the boat’s pitch, roll and displacement via onboard sensors, automatically adjusting ballast tanks to maintain the correct running attitude despite changing conditions or passenger load. It’s a rare feature at this price point.

Moomba Mojo tower

As to the passenger experience, the Mojo’s interior boasts impressive fit-and-finish, with a hybrid-style bow cockpit, increasing comfort forward, and a wraparound bench providing plenty of passenger space in the main cockpit. Moomba puts a welcome twist on the status quo bench seating, providing a lift-out filler cushion at the observer seat that allows the spotter to comfortably sit back with feet on the floor. Add removable backrests to the remaining portside bench and do likewise at the opposite end adjacent to the helm, and you’ve created two more, aft-focused positions. Slide the center bench seat forward into the cockpit, add its optional backrest, and there’s even more aft-facing seating to take in the show happening in the boat’s wake.

The Supra SL offers seemingly everything a wake or surf enthusiast could desire in a flagship tow boat. With room for 17 passengers, an upscale interior chock-full of amenities, and the ability to create ideal wakes and waves for everyone from the pure novice to the pro-level competitive rider, it’s ready to make its case as one of the premier watersports tow boats on the market.

Supra SL on the lake
Supra’s SL has room for 17 passengers, an upscale interior chock-full of amenities and the ability to create ideal wakes and waves for everyone. Courtesy Supra Boats

Producing the ultimate wakes and waves takes precise integration of multiple systems. On the SL, that formula starts with subfloor ballast—4,000 pounds of it to settle the hull deeper into the water. Supra’s SmartPlate optimizes the running angle to dial in the resulting wake’s characteristics. Add Swell 3.0 surf system tabs to build surf wakes with lengthy pockets and plenty of push on either side of the boat.

Once dialed in, Supra’s patented AutoWake hull-management system maintains that desired result no matter the conditions, using sensors to maintain pitch, roll and draft, adjusting ballast on the fly in the process. The result? The ideal conditions for riders to perform at their best…and a load of stress and distraction off the driver.

The SL’s interior and amenities are impressive. Bold, dark colors immediately catch the eye throughout the cockpit, a choice made possible by Chill Tech vinyl, which stays cool even under intense sun. Abundant storage is easily accessed via hinged cushions. Forward, the bow cockpit is deep and secure. At the helm, a standard power seat swivels into the cockpit for socializing, moves both fore and aft, and adjusts for height to give the driver the perfect reach to the wheel and unrestricted view forward. A fixed, aft-facing seatback is located behind the helm, the start of wraparound cockpit seating that can handle a crowd with ease. Lift the portside seat cushion opposite to create an additional aft-facing backrest. The rear bench seat can slide forward into the cockpit, flip over into a handy table, or create the ideal two-passenger observer seat (with fold-down armrests) to cheer on riders behind.

The SL’s swim platform, accessed via a convenient walk-through covered (like the cockpit) in Gator Step. A handy transom Surf Locker provides trunk space for two surfboards and wet lifejackets. Close the lid, and the resulting bench seat offers a great space to gear up for a ride.

A choice of Indmar Raptor engines, from 400 to 575 hp, provides all the low-end torque you’ll need to get a fully loaded boat up and on plane. That’s a good thing, because the SL is sure to draw a crowd.

High Points

  • Standard FxONE Power Folding Tower features clamping board racks and Bimini with board storage; drops to below windshield height for trailering and storage.
  • Vision Control Center offers intuitive touchscreen access to media, wake, surf and lighting controls on a trio of touchscreen helm displays.
  • There’s abundant storage below sun pads, seats and port console; in-floor locker for carry-on cooler; cup holders, phone holders, USB and wireless chargers throughout.
  • Available stern thrusters provide precision low-speed control, cleverly controlled via the joystick-like throttle knob.

Supreme’s ZS252 grabs attention with its striking, aggressive lines. The sheerline, unlike any other, sets this boat apart (and provides inspiration for the “ZS” prefix). The lines are complemented by the cutout windshield and the optional Roswell F-series tower, which also houses the large Bimini shade, speakers and board racks. Notably, the Roswell Bomb racks hold any size of wakesurf board and can be equipped with flag mounts. Fly your colors!

There’s room aplenty aboard the ZS252 for a crew of 17 and all their gear. Seating features hinged cushions to access stowage and is also customizable. The sliding rear bench slots into three positions, and removable backrests allow crew to face forward or aft. An optional table creates a lounge ready for entertaining. The GatorStep flooring delivers comfortable footing and easy maintenance, and offers buyers a means of customization.

At the helm, Supreme installed a new 7-inch OmniTouch screen that controls all the boat’s functions, including the wakesurf setup, ballast, speed control, navigation and more. The user-friendly operation means a crew can be wakesurfing within minutes of getting on the water. The ballast system consists of six separate zones that combine for up to 5,100 pounds of added weight. This quantity is necessary for such a large boat, and it helps the ZS252 push out sizable wakes and waves. With fine-tuned adjustments to the center wake plate, the waves can be customized to suit a variety of skill levels. A toggle lever mounted behind the steering wheel allows the captain to easily adjust the wake plate. Riders can save their preferences for ballast and plate settings as a user profile.

Behind the boat is where the ZS252 shines. The wakes and waves are large enough for advanced-level riders but easy to customize for riders trying things for the first time. The ZS252’s wave features a large pocket with plenty of push—a necessity for learning crazy tricks or dropping the rope for the first time. Designed for families or large crews focused on wakesurfing and wakeboarding fun, Supreme’s ZS252 ultimately delivers with easy operation that makes the on-water experience more enjoyable.
