MasterCraft Boat Company, a subsidiary of MasterCraft Boat Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ: MCFT) and the world’s best-selling towboat brand for the past five years, has introduced the all-new XT25. The MasterCraft XT25 was completely redesigned from the hull up and offers industry-leading wakesurfing capabilities, increased ballast capacity, and class-leading comfort for up to 18 passengers.

In 2024, the redesigned XT25 will introduce two new features. The XT25 features an updated version of MasterCraft’s SurfStar system with built-in foiling characteristics for both left- and right-side riders. In addition, the XT25 is equipped with standard underwater exhaust, which reduces fumes and pollution inside and behind the boat, allowing riders and passengers to enjoy music and conversation even more.

“The XT25 adds yet another model to the world’s most robust towboat lineup, which offers a diverse range at varying price points – all without sacrificing the world-class performance, undeniable reliability, class-leading comfort, and innovative connectivity that’s synonymous with MasterCraft,” said Matt McDevitt, MasterCraft Vice President of Global Sales. “The XT25 also completes the XT family lineup, which is now available with models ranging from 20-feet to 25-feet. With more wave options, more comfort, more connectivity, and more performance and reliability than ever before, the XT25 is perfect for the families looking for more.”

MasterCraft’s SurfStar, the industry’s premier wake and wave system, takes center stage. This comprehensive, integrated system comprises ballast, proprietary software, hull shape, and wake-shaping devices with military-grade actuators and precise position sensors. Using the SurfStar system, the XT25 can fine-tune and customize the wave for any operator, delivering powerful and symmetrical waves for surfing and ideal wakes for wakeboarding. With a user-friendly interface, a variety of rider profiles, and presets, the XT25 can accommodate any riding style or talent level, from steep and barreling to long and smooth. The XT25’s ballast capacity has been increased to a total of 3,200 pounds to help it produce the best wave in its class. As a result, the XT25 offers enhanced performance straight off the assembly line.

The XT25 will be equipped with a standard Ilmor Marine 6.0L MPI engine with 380 horsepower and 407 lb-ft of torque. With the optional upgrade to the more potent 430 horsepower 6.2L GDI engine, riders can enjoy more time on the water with the most responsive, robust, and dependable engines in the industry. For those interested in salt water, the 5.3L GDI has an aluminum block with efficient close-cooling that generates 365 horsepower at higher RPMs for outstanding top-end performance. Moreover, Ilmor provides an unmatched seven-year, 1000-hour warranty.

The XT25 is constructed from premium materials and rigorously tested to satisfy MasterCraft’s exacting safety and quality standards. Utilizing the finest available materials in the construction process guarantees an unrivaled ride and drive, as well as the best possible on-water experience.

When a MasterCraft boat departs the factory, investments in dependability do not end. MasterCraft’s award-winning vendor network spans the nation and the globe in order to provide unmatched customer service. MasterCare, an industry-leading five-year, 500-hour comprehensive warranty with minimal exclusions, comes standard on every boat.

The XT25’s U-shaped seating area accommodates up to 18 passengers, providing ample space for everyone to relax and enjoy the journey. The XT25 is designed to optimize your comfort and enjoyment on the water with a larger cockpit, spacious bow with lounge space, and ample storage options. Passengers can take in all the action behind the boat with optional convertible seating.

CoolFeel vinyl is up to 30 percent cooler than standard marine vinyl, keeping families cool and comfortable even on the warmest days.

The XT25’s telematics enable remote access to the vessel’s vitals via the MasterCraft Connect app. This standard feature on the XT25 enables owners to access vital boat data, such as battery and fuel levels, bilge status, and engine health, via their mobile devices, while also alerting local dealers of service requirements. Digital switching is now incorporated into the MasterCraft Connect app for 2024, allowing boaters to turn the battery switch on or off while away from the vessel.

Additionally, the XT25 features four phone holders strategically located throughout the cockpit to protect phones throughout the day, and with upgraded wireless charging available, boaters can remain charged and connected throughout the day. Featuring crisp and defined sound quality from Klipsch audio, riders can enjoy music just as the recording engineer intended thanks to the XT25’s standard six-speaker advanced audio package.

A single screen setup is located behind the steering wheel, allowing the driver to fill ballast, select preferable wave settings, and control the music. There is also the option to upgrade to a dual-screen dashboard with tower camera for added convenience and functionality.

The XT25 is also available with three tower options: the Z6, Z8, and Z10. Each of the three tower options is the ideal combination of form and function and can be readily lowered or raised. Finally, store boards with ease using standard clamping board carriers. Combined with MasterCraft’s updated bimini board storage, the XT25 offers the industry’s most board storage. The XT25 has an optional swim step that lowers down effortlessly from the swim platform, allowing everyone on board to enter and exit the water with ease.

The MSRP of the XT25 will be $205,658. To ensure the most accurate price, customers are encouraged to contact their local MasterCraft dealer to discuss options, details, and rebates. To find out more, please visit MasterCraft.com.

Heyday H20 ready for wake sports
The H20 has big advantages with its smaller size. Garrett Cortese

Given the growth of the inboard watersports boat market over the last decade, it should come as no surprise that the trend of offering bigger and bigger models has only—for lack of a better term—grown. Manufacturers such as Centurion, Malibu and MasterCraft all offer models 26 feet or longer. But does bigger always mean better? Not necessarily. Fortunately, for prospective buyers who need something smaller, there are still plenty of options to choose from. Most brands offer at least one model 21 feet or under, and several offer multiple. While the advantages of larger boats specific to wakeboarding and wakesurfing are fairly obvious, such as more room for friends, larger ballast systems for superior waves, etc., there are a lot of benefits to smaller boats.

The most obvious advantage is the purchase price. Generally, a 20- to 22-foot model is going to cost significantly less than a 25- to 26-footer. The second biggest economic advantage for smaller boats is fuel efficiency. Less fuel consumed means more wallet savings. Plus, if you’re a boater who needs to trailer your boat to and from your favorite riding spots, a smaller boat means better gas mileage for the tow vehicle (and quite possibly a cheaper vehicle that doesn’t require such a large tow rating).

Along with being easier to tow, smaller boat models are much easier to store, especially if you need to keep one in a standard-size garage. Every model listed in this roundup features a collapsible tower, making it ideal for storing in tighter places. The smaller size also presents an advantage when it comes to handling. A 20-foot boat is going to be easier to maneuver than its 26-foot sibling. MasterCraft’s XT20 is 6 feet, 5 inches shorter, 2 inches narrower and 1,800 pounds lighter than the Yacht Certified X26, so you know it’s going to be less demanding to handle in tight quarters.

With all the advancements in hull design and wave-shaping technologies, the smaller boats in the watersports segment are able to produce better wakes and waves than ever before. In years past, buyers who wanted clean surf waves with plenty of push for all the riders in their family often had to go for the bigger boats that displaced more water. In 2024, that’s not always the case. All the boats in our list can create waves that cater to all types of different riding levels and styles. You won’t be able to bring 16 or 17 of your closest friends; however, you can have a blast on the water with everybody you can bring, and you’ll likely save some money while doing it.

Here’s a look at nine of the best wakeboats under 21 feet.

MasterCraft XT20

The MasterCraft XT20 has been redesigned from the bottom up and MasterCraft have put a lot of time into making sure this 20-footer packs a punch more in line with bigger models. Equipped with the revamped SurfStar system, the XT20 can push out sizeable waves with plenty of push, along with clean, symmetrical wakeboarding wakes. The convertible rear bench and transom lounge seats–built with MasterCraft’s triple density foam and ultra-comfy vinyl–ensure everybody onboard will be comfortable. The XT line is one of the most customizable in the market, so buyers can opt to go more minimal with a new build, or take this 20-footer to the next level with all the bells and whistles MasterCraft have to offer.

Heyday H20

All-new for 2023, the Heyday H20 builds on the success of its bigger sibling, the H22. Heyday has carved out a solid spot in the marketplace by offering great performance at a very affordable price. The H20 is the only boat in this lineup without an automated surf system, but it doesn’t necessarily need one – it still puts up a solid wave, and that can be added to with an optional suction-cup-mounted wave shaper device. Two features we love about the H20: the rear-facing transom seats are an awesome way to watch the action on the water–no other manufacturer has seats like these, and the power-folding swimstep. This makes the H20 even easier to store in a garage or other tight spaces.

Moomba Mondo

Moomba have consistently upgraded the performance and capabilities of their models, allowing buyers to get solid performance at a more budget-friendly price. The 20-foot Moomba Mondo is the smallest in the lineup, but thanks to an impressive 3,700 pounds of ballast, the Swell Surf System plates and AutoWake technology, it kicks up seriously fun wakes and waves. AutoWake is key for the Mondo, as the system utilizes onboard sensors to monitor the boat’s running attitude. It will automatically adjust the Swell Surf System and ballast as needed in order to keep the wake or wave in an optimal spot. This takes a ton of the guesswork out of setting the Mondo up, which is great for new users or veteran riders alike, because it means less time trying to figure things out and more time on the water having fun.

Axis A20

The Axis A20 has been a staple in the Axis lineup since the brand’s inception, and it saw a major refresh in 2020. An improved running surface, combined with a more comfortable ride make the A20 a great option for families getting into the watersports scene. The ease-of-use of the Surf Gate and Power Wedge III systems for wakeboarding and wakesurfing can’t be overstated. The A20’s versatility make it great for riders just learning to get up or those looking to add more advanced tricks to their bag.

Centurion Fi21

The Centurion Fi21 is the smallest boat in the Centurion line, but it still prides itself on the wave-making performance Centurion is known for. At 5,100 pounds, the Fi21 is the heaviest in this group (tied with the MasterCraft XT20), and combined with its whopping 4,750 pounds of ballast (by far the most in this group), it can displace a lot of water. Featuring Centurion’s acclaimed Opti-V hull for a running surface, that means riders are getting clean, powerful waves with a large pocket and plenty of push. The QuickSurf Pro plates at the transom ensure the waves stay consistent and fun, while allowing for limitless customization for riders of any skill level.

Malibu 21 LX

Introduced in 2022, the Malibu 21 LX is a model that takes influence from several previous Malibu models and molds them into a multisport, family-fun machine. The hybrid bow is one easy-to-spot representation of this–the 21 LX has lines similar to a traditional bow, but the interior area is shaped like a bigger pickle fork bow, allowing more room for passengers. Buyers can choose between two hull types, Wake Plus and Diamond. Wake Plus caters to those looking more toward wakesurfing and wakeboarding performance, while Diamond is geared toward ultimate versatility for users who also want to water ski more aggressively behind the 21 LX. As for the wakes and waves, the combination of Surf Gate and Power Wedge III ensure the 21 LX can be quickly and easily tweaked for all different levels and styles of riding. Opt in for the Surf Band remote and the rider can control those systems from their wrist while riding.

Nautique GS20

The Nautique GS20 underwent a complete redesign and is all-new for 2023. Touted as a true crossover performer, it can pull a fun wakesurf session with solid waves and then in a matter of minutes tow a skier through the slalom course. The GS20’s hull takes design cues from its Ski Nautique and Super Air Nautique G23 cousins, allowing it to perform better than you’d think in both extremes for a 20-foot V-drive. With Nautique Surf System plates tooled into the transom of the boat, the GS20 can quickly kick up solid wakesurfing waves that can be fine-tuned for beginners to more advanced riders. NSS plates are also much smaller than other surf system plates on the market, allowing for quick transfers from side to side when wakesurfing.

Supra SR

The 20′ 11” Supra SR offers the sporty, aggressive looks Supra have become known for, with all-around performance that caters to first-timers and more advanced riders alike. At just under 21-feet, the SR is rated for 14 passengers, more than any other boat on this list, and if you load up with friends, along with the 3,300 pounds of ballast and Supra’s Swell Surf System, you’re going to get some endless waves that are a ton of fun. Supra’s patented AutoWake system comes standard, making the on-water experience that much easier and more fun for both the rider and the captain.

Tigé 20 RZX

Despite being 20 feet on the dot, Tigé’s pickle-fork shaped 20RZX offers room for 13 while holding up to 3,000 pounds of ballast. With just one screen at the helm–the vertically-mounted Clear Screen–the 20 RZX keeps things simple and clean. The single screen on the right of the steering wheel means the captain has a clean line of sight and minimal distractions, while the 20 RZX’s systems can still be quickly and easily controlled with a couple finger taps. International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 (March is also Women’s History Month). On IWD, we celebrate women’s achievement. The goal is to help raise awareness about discrimination and to take action to drive gender parity.

In the boat building business, there are many women who have earned positions of high responsibility and leadership. Here is a very partial list: Meet Some of the Most Influential Women in Boating. In the world of watersports, we all thrill to the achievements of the top women athletes. We work with these women everyday. These women influence and impact the types of boats available and the way that boaters, anglers, and watersports enthusiasts use them. In honor of International Women’s Day, we interviewed one such woman: MasterCraft Boats Director of Engineering, Erica Clark-Heinrich.

We were able to capture some time from Clark-Heinrich’s busy schedule (She oversees 30 people) during a boat test and video shoot last week. In this video, she shares about boatbuilding, her role in particular, and her love of both boats and of working at MasterCraft. She also offers advice for success, and for women in the workplace, that is well worth listening to.

With countless accolades and wins to her name, Kidd is an absolute powerhouse with an aggressive style and perfect execution of attention-grabbing tricks. To celebrate the partnership, Kidd will embark on a four-stop boat show tour, attending the Atlanta, Minneapolis, Dallas and Utah boat shows.

During each boat show stop, Kidd will make special appearances for fan meet and greets from the MasterCraft booth, take photos with attending fans, and sign autographs. While at the MasterCraft booth, attending guests can enter to win a signature Ashley Kidd Connelly surfboard. The winner will be randomly selected the Monday following the respective show. The four-stop Ashley Kidd boat show tour schedule is as follows:

  • January 14: Atlanta Boat Show
  • January 21: Minneapolis Boat Show
  • February 4: North Texas Boat Week
  • February 11: Utah Boat Show

“I’m excited to join the MasterCraft family and have the opportunity to tour the country and meet and engage with fans,” said Kidd. “MasterCraft has long been a leading wake boat brand – setting the bar for industry standards with the best surf system and waves, leading innovation and cutting-edge technology. It’s a true honor to represent such a prestigious brand for years to come.”

As the industry’s most accomplished female wake surfer, Kidd needs a boat that can elevate her riding to the next level. That is why the 28-year-old has chosen to hone her skills behind the top-performing MasterCraft XT23. The XT23 delivers world-class waves that Kidd can customize to her needs for either training or coaching. With traditional bow styling and seating for 16, the 23-foot boat is perfect for her whole crew, including her dog Bailey who’s always onboard. An XT23 will be on display at each stop of the boat show tour.

“After having the opportunity to test several MasterCraft models, I finally landed on the XT23 because of its wave performance and overall comfort and quality,” Kidd continued. “The XT23’s ability to customize the wave is absolutely perfect for when I’m coaching surf lessons, as it allows me to conveniently tone down the wave for a beginner, or select an option that best suits my client’s abilities. Also, while teaching, I spend a lot of time towards the back of the boat, so I love the versatility of the transom walkthrough – and having the option to utilize the flip-up seats. It’s truly a fantastic boat.”

From the entry-level NXT to the iconic XStar, MasterCraft offers the most robust line of award-winning wake boats on the market for every price point. Every boat features the same uncompromising craftsmanship and reliability, class-leading wake and wave performance, unmatched comfort and quality and seamless connectivity.

With the NXT23, MasterCraft set the newest member of the budget-friendly NXT family apart with an all-new design, including the running surface and a hybrid bow. The NXT23 looks great and sports classic lines. Once on board, we found the bow shape similar to its wider NXT siblings. This hybrid design offers the best of both worlds: ample space and storage, with a look that drastically separates it from the fleet.

Comfort continues throughout the NXT23, which accommodates a crew of 16. The deep seating features plush padding and the optional CoolFeel vinyl we enjoyed aboard our test boat. The aft bench quickly and easily converts into a rear-facing seat for watching the on-water action.

To help produce all that on-water fun, the NXT23 is equipped with MasterCraft’s SurfStar system and 3,130 pounds of onboard ballast. The system is loaded with easy-to-access presets for a variety of wakeboarding and wakesurfing settings, making getting started a breeze. Should you find a combination of ballast settings, speed and SurfStar plate positions that suits your riding preferences, you can save them all as a preset to access anytime in the future. We’d be remiss to not mention just how impressive the wake and wave created by the NXT23 proved to be. With factory ballast and a few people on board during our test, the wakesurf wave was sizable and clean, and offered ample push. SurfStar made it a breeze to adjust the wave’s size and characteristics, as well as transfer from one side to the other.

The clean, classic design of the helm makes the NXT23 easy to use for new and seasoned captains. A digital display to the right, combined with redundant toggle switches, makes controlling speed, ballast and SurfStar simple. The 5.3L Ilmor offers plenty of torque for getting on plane, made even easier with Auto Launch, a feature that utilizes the SurfStar plates for assistance.

Top to bottom, the NXT23 delivers high performance and craftsmanship at a more economical price point than many of today’s 23-foot watersports boats, making this latest offering from MasterCraft a must-see.

Offering fantastic wake and wave performance, industry-leading comfort and award-winning quality, MasterCraft’s XT line adds the all-new XT22 T, a 22-footer with traditional bow styling, which complements the existing XT22 and its pickle-fork bow.

The XT22 T looks great with MasterCraft’s clean sheerline. A deeper cockpit allows for comfortable seating throughout, amplified by triple-density foam seats and molded seatbacks. An optional pop-up seatback on the port side and a convertible rear bench evidence the boat’s seating versatility. We appreciated the optional heated captain and observer’s seats, along with the cockpit heater vents and hoses during our chilly fall test day.

With room for 14, the XT22 T carries a crowd. The standard Z6 tower comes with clamping board racks, while the all-new Bimini top comes with surf sleeves above and below, stowing up to six boards. We found easily accessible storage throughout the boat, both under hinged seat bottoms and in compartments next to the engine. Dedicated cooler storage proves a nice touch.

The XT22 T lives up to the performance standard set by MasterCraft. The running surface, based on both the XT22 and the X22, combined with the available 3,020 pounds of ballast and MasterCraft’s integrated SurfStar system, means the wakes and waves can go from beginner-friendly to pro-level quickly. The 79-gallon fuel capacity ensures long days of on-water fun. Want to check the fuel, bilge or engine status? Do so from anywhere, thanks to onboard diagnostics and the new MasterCraft Connect app.

At the helm, the XT22 T comes standard with classic analog gauges up top and a digital touchscreen to the right. Or owners can upgrade to a digital display at the top and larger touchscreen to the right. Either way, we found the XT22 T’s systems intuitive and easy. Rider presets make setting up wakesurfing or wakeboarding a breeze.

The XT22 T is a versatile addition to the XT family. It’s great if you’re in the market for a boat that holds plenty of family, friends and all the requisite gear, and is readily customizable but still easy to tow and store off the water.

High Points

  • Transom lounge seats with optional backrests take the XT22 T’s lounge factor to the next level.
  • Optional flip-down swim step is great for getting in and out of the water with ease.
  • Cellphone cradles integrated into the cockpit keep phones out of sunlight and cup holders, with the option for wireless charging capabilities.
